New Release of TextFlow

August 31st, 2009

Today we are pleased to announce the first post-summer release of TextFlow. There are three points I want to mention with this new release.

Firstly, this new release is our first step towards significant speed improvements when working with large documents. We anticipate further new releases in the coming weeks that will improve working with large documents even more, but already now you should notice that you can work with much larger documents than has been possible up to now. Changes in both the client and the server (WeaveSync) components have been made to speed up both editing and comparing large documents.

The second change is a simplification to the document version list in TextFlow. The previous version was confusing for some users and we feel that the new version list is more intuitive.

Finally we have been working on improving compatibility with Microsoft Word documents. We have been able to make a number of improvements here and we hope that any documents you might have been having problems with before will work now.  If you are still experiencing problems with a particular document, please don’t forget that you can easily submit a bug report to us from within TextFlow.

As usual, TextFlow will automatically upgrade to the latest version next time you run it.

TextFlow wins the Basex Excellence Award

August 13th, 2009

It’s always nice to win an award, and the great thing about a virtual event like the the first-ever Information Overload Awareness Day is that you don’t get dazzled by paparazzi cameras flashing.  It’s a great way to organise an international meeting too, with no jet travel footprint and no jet lag.  This one was organised by Basex, one of the major companies in knowledge management, and pulled in remote speakers from the US government (OSHA), Dow Jones, academia, etc., and a Visionary Vendor Panel which represented Xobni, ClearContext, Xerox PARC, Microsoft, and us, Nordic River.  The Visionary Vendors were also the winners of this year’s Basex Excellence Awards (the “Baseys”): a picture of ours is below.

“Collaboration on documents is a given in knowledge work, yet the way we currently work has countless built-in inefficiencies,” said Jonathan B. Spira, CEO and Chief Analyst, Basex. “We selected TextFlow because it provides a simple yet elegant solution that simplifies the authoring process, a necessary first step that can lead to significant gains in productivity.”  Thank you for those words, thank you for the award, and long may we all collaborate well.
