Three versions of the American Declaration of Independence

October 31st, 2008

As the screenshot suggests, three versions of the American Declaration of Independence are fascinating to read this way, without the hypertext clicking about of the place we got them from. We dropped Jefferson’s alpha into TextFlow as an “original Word document” that he really wrote with a feather, and then the committee beta and the 1.0 Congress release for comparison — although their writers weren’t signed up with TextFlow. As a user, you can compare and work with your collaborators’ writing even if they haven’t heard of it.

Most of our beta users first signed up when you had an aching load of conflicting documents: but before the beta release came, you’d handled those particular files with a serial word processor.  Now it’s here, you don’t want to start looking for those files that caused the trouble.

Many of you have been asking for some ‘get started’ sets, to explore what TextFlow can do, and to be ready when your next wave of parallel editing hits.  Here are the four word files used for the Test drive on our website. We will post some more examples from  ”real life” users the next few days.
