Announcing the first private alpha release of the desktop version of TextFlow
September 26th, 2008We are now pleased to be able to release our desktop version of TextFlow, running on the Adobe AIR platform, for private testing. It has several significant changes from previous test versions:
AIR
TextFlow now runs on the desktop like any standard application. TextFlow can load and save files directly to your hard disk instead of storing them remotely on a server. The AIR platform means that TextFlow is incredibly light-weight (the entire application weighs in at less than 500kb) and fast to launch / use. AIR also lets us transparently upgrade your TextFlow installation each time a new version is released. The end result is that you get all the benefits of a web based application AND all the benefits of a desktop application.
Drag and Drop interface
To make it as easy as possible for our users to start testing the capabilities of TextFlow, we have tried to remove all hurdles in getting started. Now you can simply drag and drop your documents directly into TextFlow from your desktop or e-email client, to compare them.
Support for Microsoft Word
This version of TextFlow supports import and export of the Microsoft Word .doc format (.docx coming soon). Merging three or more Word documents, you now simply drag them into TextFlow, choose and refuse, and click “Export” to get back to Word.
Quick Formatting
Setting the style formatting of your documents is now easier and more controlled. Our quick formatting menu follows your place in the document to enable quick style setting of text.
